Frequently asked
questions.

How much does therapy cost?

Individual therapy is $125 per session. A sliding scale is available; just let me know when you reach out. Grief counseling groups are $40 per session.

Do you take insurance?

No. Albatross Counseling is self-pay only. I can provide a superbill if you want to request reimbursement from your insurance company.

Where do sessions happen?

In my office in Overland Park, online, or outdoors, whether that's a trail, a bench, the driving range, or a round of golf. We usually start with a couple of sessions in the office, then decide together.

What can I expect in the first session?

We start with a couple of sessions in my office. We talk about how therapy works, privacy and confidentiality, where you’re at, and whether I’m the right person to help. From there, we decide together whether to stay in the office or get moving. More in What to Expect from Therapy.

How do I know if I need therapy?

You don’t need a diagnosable disorder, and you don’t need your world to be in flames. If you’re asking the question, it’s at least worth finding out. I wrote more about it in What even is therapy?

What if we’re not a good fit?

That’s okay. I know I’m not for everyone, and finding the right fit is one of the most important parts of the whole process. If we find we aren’t a good fit, I can help you work through finding another therapist.

What if I’m in crisis?

If you’re in crisis or thinking about hurting yourself, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) any time. In Johnson County, the mental health crisis line is 913-268-0156. In an emergency, call 911.
